What time should I arrive at New Beginnings?
You should plan to arrive at Honey Creek in time for dinner at 6p on Friday, March 9th. Activities don’t begin until everyone has arrived at – we mean it! If you know you will be late, you must contact Jason Peaslee (see above for contact information) to let him know you will be late. What time will I leave on Sunday?
You should plan to depart around 3p on Sunday, March 11th. Sometimes the schedule goes about a half hour earlier or later. Parents and family members are welcome to attend the final service of Holy Eucharist that begins at 1:45p in the Chapel of Our Savior at Honey Creek. Visitors are encouraged to be in place in the chapel before 1:45p.
What about cell phones? Am I allowed to bring mine?
All cell phones that belong to folks under 21 will be taken at registration. Your cell phone will be carefully placed in a plastic bag with your name on it and stowed in a secure location until your departure. Cell phone usage breaks community and can become a major distraction during the weekend. In the event of an emergency, parents/guardians should contact Jason or Canon Leigh (see information above).
I have prescription medications. Should I do anything special with them at the weekend?
All prescription medications should be placed in a plastic bag with the participant’s name and administration instructions clearly noted on the outside of the bag. Upon registration, all prescription medications should be presented to the adults at registration. These medications will be noted by the adults at that time. High school students will be allowed to self-administer their own prescription medications and will therefore be handed back their medications after they have been noted by the weekend adults. Middle school students’ medications will be kept by the adults and administered by either a dorm Mom or Dad or another person designated to administer medications. Please consult Jason or Canon Leigh if there are questions about this procedure.
What should I bring to the weekend?
Necessary Casual clothes (Ex: jeans, shorts, sandals, sneakers) Sleeping clothes that are appropriate for a dorm setting Towel Linens to fit a twin-sized bed (Ex: sheets and a blanket or a sleeping bag) Pillow Your registration fee (if you haven’t already paid it) Personal toiletries A Christ-like attitude! Optional (nice to have but not necessary) Shower flip flops for the dorm Bug spray Rain coat (if rain is forecasted) Sports clothes (if you plan to play sports during free time) Bible (we will have plenty of these on hand, but you might want to have your own) A snack to share (Ex: brownies, cookies)You might find it helpful to download a PDF copy of the New Beginnings #40 Brochure, which has much of this information in it.
We are so excited to have you at New Beginnings and know that God has wonderful things in store for you! Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions or concerns. Travel safely, and we’ll you soon!
-Canon Leigh & Jason
